The Best Employee Motivation Efforts - 848 Words

The best employee motivation efforts will focus on what the employees deem to be important. It may be that employees within the same department of the same organization will have different motivators. Many organizations today find that flexibility in job design and reward systems has resulted in employees increased longevity with the company, improved productivity, and better morale. According to survey results, USAA may benefit greatly by incorporating the following recommendations as it relates to increasing employee motivation. Empowering Employees Giving employees more responsibility and decision-making authority increases their realm of control over the tasks for which they are held responsible and better equips them to carry out those tasks. As a result, feelings of frustration arising from being held accountable for something one does not have the resources to carry out are diminished. (Maroney, 2004). The First Wave Of Women - 950 Words

There have been numerous women throughout history whom have influenced and helped spread change for feminism. The first wave feminists (from the 1800’s to the early 20th century) started numerous organizations to help and support women’s rights and also helped in part of passing legislations that further aid the rights granted to women. Some of the most important first wave feminists include Susan B. Anthony and Alice Paul. The second wave feminists (from the mid 20th century to late 20th century) helped further rights granted to women from the household to their lifestyle. Some important second wave feminists include Betty Friednas and Mary King and Casey Hayden. Essentially, she wanted the right for women to vote before the black man because she believed the woman deserved it more. Although she believed in the rights of women, she focused more on the rights for white women instead of those of color. Anthony helped start some of the most well-known Women†s organizations in history. Another first wave feminists was Quaker Alice Paul. In the early years of her feminist protests, she helped protest in London, met friend and partner Lucy Burns in jail, and participated in hunger strikes. Alice Paul â€Å"advocated for nonviolent, but militant action in pursuit of her goals.† Alice Paul and Lucy Burns seemed out Susan B. Anthony to become the directors of NAWSA’s Congressional committee. The committees focus was to help the suffrage amendment or better known as the Anthony amendment to pass. Once Paul an d Burns took over they lobbied Congressmen to insure their vote on the amendment, but Paul soon became frustrated with NAWSA’s slower tactics. Man Overcoming Great Obstacles Essay Some believe to live is to suffer, and in Hemingways The Old Man And The Sea this philosophy is dealt with and viewed in many situations. In this poignant short novel Ernest Hemingway beautifully illustrates the trials and tribulations of everyday man, through Santiagos struggle at sea. The old mans adventure with the marlin is one of loss, pride, and achievement all combined into one emotional fight for life itself. Hemingways use of allegory in The Old Man And The Sea establishes many deeper aspects that man struggles with in everyday life. The numerous hardships and battles Santiago encounters on the sea can be viewed as conflicts man is forced to deal with in his lifetime. A use of symbolism that proves an example of struggle in life is seen when the old man reflects on Manolin. When Santiago is at sea and hooks the great fish he feels he needs the virile power of the young boy to catch the marlin. Manolin the young boy often helped the old man on other fishing ventures, but he does not have him then and reflects on this in this quote But you havent got the boy he thought. You have only yourself, and you had better work back to the last line now, in the dark, and cut it and hook up the two reserve coils.1. This quote is symbolic of making due in life with what you have. Santiago does not have Manolins help; therefore he must struggle and catch the great fish on his own. Many times in ones life we are not given every advantage to ease our pain and suffering when one is striving for achievement. The old man does not allow in pity for not having Manolin, but rather is very rational about the situation. This represents the fact that in life one must move on and put great effort into tasks that are seemingly impossible when done independently. The absence of Manolin places emphasis on dealing with struggle when man has little to fight with. As Hemingway uses other figures to establish struggle, he also utilizes Santiagos inner thoughts as symbolism. In amidst the battle at sea with the old man and the marlin he has a great revelation. This excerpt is Santiagos opinion on his battle with the fish But he seems calm, he thought, and following his plan. But what is his plan, he thought. And what is mine? Mine I must improvise because of his great size. If he will jump I can kill him. But he stays down forever. Then I will stay down with him forever.2. This quote is an excellent summation of one of the main ideals of The Old Man And The Sea. Through allegory Hemingway establishes the fact that life is unpredictable. Santiago cannot predict the marlins actions; therefore he considers possible scenarios and his reactions to them. This is similar to how in life one cannot truly know the actions of other people, but one only knows his own actions. This quote also shows how in life a person receives both the good and the bad. In one scenario the fish would jump and be caught, but in another the fish would stay down forever as would the old man The Old Man And The Sea often represents how greatly the actions of others can impact our lives both negatively and positively. Although Santiago eventually catches the marlin his triumph is dampened when the sharks ensue on his achievement. This statement shows a shark eating the freshly caught marlin, but possesses a much deeper meaning The sharks head was out of water and his back was coming out and the old man could hear the noise of skin and flesh ripping on the big fish when he rammed the harpoon down onto the sharks head at a spot where the line between his eyes intersected with the line that ran straight back from his nose. 3. Routing Protocol and Research Lab Network Essay The genome4u is a scientific study project at a large university that is intended to provide an order of the genomes of a hundred thousand volunteers. This genome lab setup has various amounts of routing protocols, in which the task would be getting the protocols interlinked so that design can be changed. The different Cisco switches represent the various VLANs that can be configured for the different project teams in the lab (Oppenheimer, 2005).Router-EIGRPs are the internal routers of the research lab network. Router-EIGRP/OSPFs and Router-EIGRP/RIPs are the routers that are at the Fundraising office interface and the Biology lab interface respectively. The file servers are where the volunteer’s data files will be stored. The design will now spread apart similar data to travel across it from different internet connections. With the change of routing protocols to the EIGR, a lot of traffic can be sent across that routing channel. This routing protocol can run on most software and can be serviced easily.It is also quick to install. EIGRP reduces both the routing insecurity caused by topology change and the use of bandwidth for the routers. EIGRP enabled routers will redistribute route information to IGRP neighbors, providing a loop-free mechanism and fast convergence (Medhi amp; Ramasamy, 2007). The various network segments will understand route segments depending on the protocol which is configured on them. Since the network has multiple routing protocols present, route redistribution will take place.This will help to spread the knowledge in a way that is recognized by other network segments. Routes learned by EIGRP will be redistributed into RIP and vice versa, by using a default metric or simply define a metric specific for every redistribution (Lathem et el, 2006). The first step would be to change over the routing protocol after that has been handled. Then configure the EIGRP routing and make ensure that the internet access can function through that setup. After the internet access is confirmed to be working, other labs and offices can be connected to the network.Once that is complete all data can be moved across the connections to all the laboratories and offices. The data that will be distributed on the EIGRP protocol will be all the sensitive information. This is because by using such protocol, security mechanism can be easily implemented so that it is hard to interrupt that protocol. The OSPF protocol will handle the security of any high priority information such as payroll document. The RIP connection is not equipped to hold anything confidential because of the lack of a security feature.The main problems to encounter will be an RIP security issue. However, the insecurity can be solved by using the RIP protocol for information that is less sensitive to the network design (Lathem et el, 2006). Similarly, when the information is redistributed, the traffic may be overwhelming. But the network administrators will have to divi de the traffic so that all the routers can each carry their weight of the information. The problems with the flow of traffic will be fixed and distributed through the routers.Each router will be used for certain information and that way the routers will not be overworked. Also the security will be set up so that all confidential information goes through those securities enabled routing protocol. Internet will be purchased internet from the best vendor nearby like Verizon. In the design a router will be installed in each office and lab, then configure them to operate on the network with appropriate security configuration.
